The Write Place

February 27, 2010

Went to a fantastic writing workshop at Kentish Town Library this morning, run by Aoife Mannix (http://aoifemannix.com), writer in residence at Camden Inspirations Market.

I made one of the other participants cry with one of my new poems (whether she was moved or just thought it was dreadful is hard to say...)

I will call myself
Guanamby;
daughter of the tale -
the butterfly that god changed
to a hummingbird,
and flew away.

Aoife is also collecting Camden stories, writing and poetry inspired by the borough or a general sense of place. The project will culminate in readings at the Kentish Town Library and British Museum. There are more workshops running throughout March. They are free to attend and no previous writing experience is necessary. Check 'em out...
